With Red Hot Penny Shares, we hope to guide you through how to buy and sell shares on the stock market, provide you with potentially groundbreaking tips, advice on when to buy, sell or hold and how to identify similar opportunities in the future.

Who is Greg Lecoq? Do I know him?

You may not know him personally, but Greg’s the analyst and writer of Red Hot Penny Shares. He has several years experience working as an analyst. And over the years, has established not only credibility but also a great many contacts, which enables him to tip the blue chips of tomorrow.

How many members are there?

Red Hot Penny Shares currently enjoys a circulation of over 10,000 subscribers.

How can I contact Greg Lecoq?

You can contact Greg via email on rhps@fsp.co.za. He'll be more than willing to help should you have any questions regarding any of the shares tipped. (Unfortunately he can’t give you individual financial advice.)

Why penny shares?

They’re more accessible to the smaller investor and yet, they have the largest growth potential. These shares are often overlooked, giving Red Hot Penny Shares investors the advantage.

How much do I need to invest?

We recommend a minimum R10,000 investment – anything less than that isn't viable because of commissions and brokerage fees.

Do you recommend any particular service?

Imara SP Reid are currently FSP's preferred stockbrokers (see links page for contact details).

Are you qualified to provide financial advice?

FSP may not provide financial advice, we simply make recommendations and provide research. We suggest you consult your financial adviser before making investments.

What do I get as a member?

Each month, you receive a copy of the 12-page Red Hot Penny Shares newsletter, which explains current economic conditions and comes with three exciting new penny share recommendations as well as an update on all the shares that are currently open within the portfolio. In each issue, you’ll discover which shares to buy (and why) which to hold and which to sell. Follow Greg’s advice, and you could double your investment in less than a year.

In addition, you’ll also receive a free weekly e-alert with news that contains market news and share updates and a SMS at the end of every month indicating the buys and sells for that month. But that’s not all, we’ll also sign you up to our free tri-weekly e-letter Investment Academy. This free advisory will help you with your first investment steps, keep you abreast of current financial news and events, give access to the best personal finance tips around and set you off down the risky, buy highly lucrative, road of trading.

After I join, how easy is it to quit?

Very easy. You’re protected by a three-month RISK-FREE provisional membership period (depending on promotion) when you join so you can test us out for yourself with no obligation. MoneyWeek Magazine

What exactly is MoneyWeek?

Moneyweek is a full colour financial magazine. It’s not a newsletter and consists of 40 pages of the best of the international and local financial and investment news from the past week and what the brokers and fund managers are tipping to buy. MoneyWeek is a digest of all the financial and investment news. It’s available on subscription from Fleet Street Publications and can be purchased at CNA, Exclusive Books and various other newsagents.

Why should I subscribe to MoneyWeek?

  • MoneyWeek brings you all the best local and global financial news to act on in one easy read.
  • It takes less than an hour to read cover to cover.
  • It saves you time – you don’t need to trawl through all the newspapers, magazines and media to find out the latest investment tips, financial advice and news going on in the world.
  • It saves you money – up to R5,000 in subscription fees if you had to subscribe to Finweek, Financial Mail, Financial Times and Newsweek.
  • Our MoneyWeek analysts offer you information you can act on and profit from.
  • Local fund managers give you the best investment picks for the week and global experts offer you investment advice.
  • We also include what all the other media is saying you should invest in or avoid.

Can you send me the first 3 issues and then I sign up later?

MoneyWeek is available on a risk-free subscription offer. If you choose not to continue your subscription within the first three issues, you’ll receive a 100% refund of all fees paid. Unfortunately, we can’t send you the trial issues without payment first.

I want to subscribe but I need an invoice?

No problem, we can send you a pro-forma invoice for the annual subscription - that’s 48 issues per year for only R625.

I only want to pay for one quarter or on a monthly basis?

A subscription to MoneyWeek is for a 12 month period. We give you the option to pay annually or quarterly via debit order or credit card.

If you wish to pay cash we can only accept the annual subscription fee. If you would prefer to pay for it weekly, you can buy it from Exclusive Books or CNA.

Please cancel me when the quarter is up?

Unfortunately, our system treats all subscriptions as annual even though you have the convenience of paying quarterly so I can’t automatically “switch off” your subscription at the end of the first quarter. I can only do this at the end of your first year.

If you wish to cancel, then I need to either cancel you now or you need to call us once you have received your last issue for the quarter.

I’d like to speak to the editor?

All correspondence does need to be directed via email to Gareth Stokes on moneyweek@fsp.co.za.

How often does the magazine come out and when will I receive it?

MoneyWeek is a weekly publication. It’s mailed to you every Friday and should reach main centres like Johannesburg and Pretoria on a Monday. Durban and Cape Town will receive it on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Can I not get my issue any faster?

As long as we have your email address, you’ll receive your issue online every Friday.

This week’s issue hasn’t arrived, what do I do?

Well, you’re welcome to log in and view the issue online. In the meantime we’ll credit you an extra issue to make up for any inconvenience this might have caused, you just have to let us know.

Who is the editor of MoneyWeek?

Gareth Stokes is the editor of MoneyWeek.  He holds a business degree in financial management and writes regularly on the topics of financial and investment environments. After serving a four year stint as a business analyst in the UK, he returned to South Africa and joined Fleet Street Publications as their financial editor.

He’s returned to the fold after taking some time off to pursue other writing interests. Gareth is the author of Fear, Greed and the Stock Market, a beginner’s guide to successful stock market investing. He’s also the editor for Financial & Advisory News.

Are you qualified to provide financial advice?

FSP may not provide financial advice, we simply make recommendations and provide research. We suggest you consult your financial adviser before making investments.

The Zurich Club

What is the Zurich Club?

The Zurich Club is a private international financial club.

What is a financial club?

It consists of investors who conduct private research that uncover the investment opportunities here in SA and around the world that can benefit each club member.

Why the name Zurich Club?

We chose this name because it best represents our four basic principles:

1) Prosperity: The right to develop personal wealth
2) Privacy: The right to achieve financial and personal privacy
3) Protection: The right to ensure your wealth isn’t taken by the taxman, scams, etc.
3) Tradition: The right to further the values of tradition and family

Why have I never heard of you before?

That's because we keep a low profile and purposely avoid public attention.

Is the club South African?

It’s international. Our club works globally with affiliates in the US, Britain, Germany, France and Switzerland. As a member, you’d join the South African chapter and all your club correspondence is in English.

What do the members have in common?

Our members are interested in increasing their wealth and preserving what they have.

How many members are there?

Currently, we have over 75,000 members worldwide.

Who are they?

Our oldest member is 92 and youngest is 24. But most are between the ages of 40 and 70.

Many made their money through business as successful entrepreneurs or as owners or senior executives of established companies including some of the largest companies in SA.

We also have many high-income professionals, such as dentists, doctors, lawyers, architects and accountants. A handful of members inherited their fortunes. Some members are CEO's of large, family owned or public companies. And a couple of members started with nothing and became wealthy quite quickly through successful investing. We also have some members who’re enthusiastic new investors who have yet to make their fortunes. Net worth isn’t a restriction to joining. And please note: Members names, addresses and contact numbers are confidential. They’re not even shared with other members.

Is this a men’s only club?

Most members are men, but we have several female members as well.

Are all members investors?

Yes. Many have years of investing experience, whereas some are new at it. In addition to being interested in our monthly share recommendations, our members want to know the latest tax-saving strategies and legal manoeuvres for privacy and protecting their wealth.

Where do you get the investment recommendations?

Every recommendation you receive comes from our own research and analysis and that of our Board of Governors. In fact, our unique investment research is our strength. Over the years, this has been reflected in our track record.

Where does the investment information come from?

It comes from three places:
First, from our own researchers here in SA.
Second, from researchers around the world who work for other sections of The Zurich Club.
And third, from our members. We encourage members to come forth with investment opportunities they've heard of or are involved in. We investigate it, analyse its soundness and profit potential. Then, if it proves viable and we’re convinced that it’ll make money for the other members, we’ll publish it in our monthly Communiqué. Often, this source of news from our members worldwide has given Zurich Club members in SA a gigantic edge over other investors. Around the world, wherever large sums of money are to be made, you'll find The Zurich Club there.

But where are these investments?

Everywhere! Not only do we examine South African investment opportunities, we search the world for money-making opportunities and look at each situation from a SA investors viewpoint and take SA tax implications into account. Our members have different interests. Some want to invest in South African companies only. That's fine. We show them plenty of great undervalued shares that’ll soon skyrocket. Others want to invest globally. Thanks to our international affiliation, we have access to private investment research from around the world.

Do you only recommend shares?

No. You'll also learn about every area of investment available to you: Bonds, property, mortgages and even kruger rands, gems and fine art in SA and around the world.

What do I get as a member?

Each month, you receive a copy of the 12-page Zurich Club Communiqué, which explains how current events around the world and new developments here at home will affect your investments and net worth. Plus, in the Communiqué you’ll learn about the latest legal strategies to help you protect your wealth, preserve your privacy and keep SARS away from your door. In addition, each month you’ll learn of the latest recommendations from our investment researchers. You'll discover which shares to buy (and why) which to hold and which to sell. Follow the advice and you could double your investment in less than a year.

Is this information available elsewhere?

No! Our findings and investment recommendations are kept private among Zurich Club members only. If we published our results in the daily press we’d be flooded with requests to join. But that would defeat the purpose of our Club. When too many people know of a good thing, no one benefits. As it stands now, with a controlled membership, you enjoy a unique opportunity to multiply your wealth in a short period of time.

What happens at a Club meeting?

You'll be invited to attend Club meetings currently held in Johannesburg three times a year where you’ll hear speakers talk of the latest investment opportunities. These meetings are a great way to meet other members who live in your community. Many people report of making long-lasting friendships and finding business or investment partners through these Zurich Club meetings.

But what if I can’t attend the meeting?

That’s not a problem. After every club meeting, we’ll prepare minutes detailing all the pertinent points of the presentation. These will either be sent to you with your Communiqué or you can request them by email.

Do I get other benefits as a member?

Yes, quite a few. You'll receive:

  • Special reports about current topics: When we discover an above-average opportunity, we research it and a report will immediately be mailed to you.
  • Special investment reports: As soon as we receive your acceptance RSVP Certificate, you receive a complete set of special reports that describes our successful strategies and techniques in detail.
  • And remember, the Zurich Club Global Headquarters is at your disposal: Club members are always welcome to drop in to our clubhouse in Baltimore, visit the Zurich Club’s US staff, benefit from their expert, financial knowledge and meet other members. So if in the coming year you find yourself in the USA, please drop in.

As a member, must I divulge my finances?

No! Never! How much you have is your private business. No one will ever ask you anything about your income, investments or holdings. One of our guiding principles is privacy. That means from the government and from others, which includes from other members.

Is there an initiation fee?

No. It costs you nothing to join. The only thing you have to maintain is your annual fee of R1,500.

Will I have to contribute over and above my membership dues?

No. We don’t do fundraising. And we’ll never ask you for a contribution. Your annual fee is the only money you’ll ever spend. Also, regardless of how wealthy you are, everyone pays the same fee.

After I join, how easy is it to quit?

Very easy. You’re protected by a one-month RISK-FREE provisional membership period when you join so you can test us out for yourself with no obligation. After that, you’re covered by a further pro-rata money-back promise. If you no longer wish to be a member you may quit at any time

Red Hot Trader

Should I subscribe to both Red Hot Trader and Red Hot Penny Shares or cancel one to take up the other?

Red Hot Trader doesn’t give you exposure to penny shares on the equity market. Instead, it takes you one step up – into the derivatives market (we explain all these terms in our free reports when you subscribe). It covers short-term trades. Unlike Red Hot Penny Shares (where shares are held for about 12 months), Red Hot Trader only holds for between two and four weeks. However, you don’t have to be a Red Hot Penny Shares subscriber to be a Red Hot Trader subscriber – they are two independent services.

What’s the difference between Red Hot Trader and Red Hot Penny Shares?

Red Hot Penny Shares covers the equity market only – recommending shares at under R10. Red Hot Trader covers derivatives called “single stock futures”, which are usually held for between two to four weeks (i.e. under a month).

Why is the subscription to Red Hot Trader so expensive?

An advisory broker will cost you more. It’ll also be very difficult for you to get advice on futures on your screen as the instruments move at a stockbroker. We give you this expertise and have also negotiated an exclusive brokerage rate with Imara SP Reid to help reduce your trading costs. The cost of this service should be made up by the gains you make in the market, otherwise it isn’t working for you.

How does the service work?

Our analyst Nic Best is a professional trader. He uses mainly fundamental and some technical analysis to identify opportunities for you. Red Hot Trader is a weekly service and Nic's alerts could arrive at any time during business hours, Monday-Friday. Nic will tell you exactly what to do and what to say to your trading firm to open or close a trade. Nic makes it very easy for you to trade as he does all the work for you – you just have to act on it.

I live outside Johannesburg. How can I attend the seminars?

We cover the issues mentioned at the seminars in educational emails. We also recommend you write to us at rhtrader@fsp.co.za with any queries you may have so we can answer them directly. Minutes of the seminars are circulated to all Red Hot Trader’s after the event.

I’m very wary of getting into futures as I’ve heard they’re too risky, is this true?

Yes, they are risky instruments. With futures trading, you need to set up a margin. Your broker will contact you when you need to top up this margin, but as a Red Hot Trader subscriber we inform you as to whether you must top up or close the position. Futures can be risky as your margin could keep rolling over. However, we tell you exactly what to do in cases like this. We also tell you when to get out of the trade, so you avoid having to make these decisions yourself.

Stockmarket Sleuth

What exactly is Stockmarket Sleuth?

Stockmarket Sleuth is an email based service that tips shares that can be purchased and held for the medium- to long-term. This service investigates all the shares on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange.

Are you qualified to provide financial advice?

FSP may not provide financial advice, we simply make recommendations and provide research. We suggest you consult your financial adviser before making any investments.

Can I subscribe if I live overseas?

Yes, you can subscribe because it’s an electronic service. But, you won’t be able to get the SMS alerts.

Why should I take the advice from this service when the stock market is under pressure and negatively affecting some of our shares?

Stockmarket Sleuth is a long-term portfolio with a three to five year mandate. The shares are selected by Werner because they’re undervalued, have excellent internal fundamentals and long-term growth opportunities. The markets are currently very volatile and at a low point. This creates excellent long-term growth prospects for you.

How will I know if there’s a new share selection?

Getting to buy the share at the right time is a must. We send you a short SMS to inform you of your new share selection and also email you the selection. You’ll have access to your share selection on the internet too. We make 100% sure you get all the information you need.

How much do I need to invest?

We recommend a minimum of R10,000 investment. As anything less than that isn't viable because of service and brokerage fees. You could probably invest in two shares with that amount of money.

Do you recommend any particular broker?

Imara SP Reid and T-Sec are currently FSP's preferred stockbrokers.

Imara can be contacted on 011 550 6200 and T-Sec on 011 506 7000. If you prefer trading with your own broker you’re welcome to do so. Check out your broker letter, which is included in your welcome pack.

Spread Trader

What is spread trading?

Spread trading is simply a bet on the price movement of a financial instrument. Spreads are geared products enabling clients to match the market exposure of a conventional underlying share price with a small percentage of capital. Spreads are low cost, highly efficient alternative to traditional share trading. Spreads give investors direct market access to being able to go short (sell) or go long (buy) on a multitude of financial instruments, thereby enabling investors to profit from rising or falling markets.

Where can I spread trade?

In South Africa there’s only one company offering spread trading to the private investor. The company is known as Global Trader.

How do I contact Global Trader?

You can contact Global Trader on (011) 214-8000 or www.gt247.co.za.

How do I open a spread trading account?

You’ll require an application form, your ID, proof of residential address and an initial deposit of R5,000 in order to open an account and start trading.

How does the service work?

Our analyst Nic Best is a professional trader. He uses mainly fundamental and some technical analysis to identify opportunities for you. Spread trader is a weekly service and Nic's alerts could arrive at any time during business hours, Monday-Friday. Nic will tell you exactly what to do and what to say to your spread trading firm to open or close a trade, including what level to place your stop loss order. Nic makes it very easy for you to trade as he does all the work for you – you just have to act on it.

What Really Makes Money

What is What Really Makes Money?

What Really Makes Money (WRMM) is a monthly newsletter that provides its readers with blueprints of proven business opportunities every month so they can start their own part-time or full-time businesses. The team consists of researchers and experts under the auspices of Nick Laight in the UK and Charl Collings in South Africa. WRMM gives its readers specific information about how much they could earn from each opportunity, how much time and money will be required, how to market the business as well as insider information on making it successful.

Will I get personal advice about a specific business opportunity?

Although the service doesn’t provide for one-on-one consulting and coaching, readers are encouraged to send in their business ideas as well as businesses they would like Charl’s team to look into and in the form of the newsletter, Charl will endeavour to research them all and publish his findings.

Who can help if I have a specific query or request for advice?

You are welcome to e-mail Charl on Charl@fsp.co.za or write to us at What Really Makes Money; Private Bag X16, Northriding, 2162 and we will try to answer as many letters and emails from our subscribers as possible.
