Labour Bulletin Archive May 2009

This is the fourth week of introductions! For those of you who haven’t encountered me before, I’m the managing editor of Labour Watch Newsletter. I would say the Labour Bulletin’s panel has become a four-headed eagle, if it weren’t for the bizarre imagery such a statement conjures... Question:

Can we reduce an employee’s salary because of a decrease in their workload?

Answer: You must negotiate any reduction to salary and get the employee's written agreement as you’re essentially changing his original contract. You need to explain the need for the reduced workload (which must be fair, for business reasons) and the pro rata salary reduction.

Don’t you also want your employees to be happy and motivated, and therefore productive? What about attracting and keeping your top talent?
