- Labour law and Health and Safety go hand-in-hand...
Dear reader,
I hope you’re psyched for tomorrow’s general elections? I’ll be up bright and early to cast my vote at our local primary school. I was still at school during the 1994 elections, and was very pleased when we were given an entire week off for them! But, we still have several public holidays to look forward to, so I’m not really complaining.
3 reasons to register with the COID Fund
Do you know the 3 reasons you should register with the COID Fund?
1. It’s law! If you employ one or more employees you must register with the compensation fund. If you contravene or fail to comply with any regulations, you’ll be guilty of an offence and liable for a fine, or imprisonment not exceeding six months, if convicted (Section 97(1) of the COIDA)!
Don’t let this happen to you: be aware of all 3 reasons why you should be registered...
Labour law and health and safety go hand-in-hand...
Registering with the COID Fund is just one example of how labour law and health and safety regulations often go hand-in-hand. It’s in your and your employees’ best interests to have more than just a ‘smattering’ of knowledge when it comes to adhering to labour law.
You need to be able to help your managers with their labour and HR questions. Can you give them the correct answers to these questions?
“Louise wants me to pay her out for her remaining 10 days’ annual leave, instead of taking these days, can I allow this?”
“Can I grant Mark family responsibility leave if his mother-in-law has died?”
“Albert hasn’t come to work for four days, what procedure should I follow?”
“Can I ask job applicants if they have a criminal conviction?”
You and your managers and supervisors need to be as on top of labour law and HR procedure as for health and safety. But, you’re both busy – too busy to phone the Department of Labour and consult comprehensive reference manuals. But there’s a way to manage your employees according to the law and take a little of the responsibility off your shoulders.
We’ve developed “384 of the Best Labour Law and HR Tips... Ever!” a pocket-sized book developed precisely to answer those common daily questions that crop up when it comes to managing staff. In it you’ll find tips and suggestions in 67 different labour and HR areas, little details your managers are in danger of overlooking when dealing with employees, and priceless hints from our legal experts that will save your managers, time, and you, money.
