Add this vitamin to your flu protection plan
“Never again!”
My friend Ricki recently took her three-year-old daughter to her GP for an annual check up. Of course, her doctor strongly recommended a flu shot. He said it would help prevent the flu and make the symptoms less severe if her daughter did get the flu.
As he put it: She’ll have a lower fever, less vomiting, that sort of thing.
That same evening, her daughter developed a fever and vomited several times.
Maybe the timing was coincidental, but just try tell that to Ricki. She’s convinced the shot caused the very problems it was supposed to prevent. So now she’s looking for other ways to protect her daughter and her family from the flu.
Ricki, I’ve got just what you’re looking for...
Put to the test, this essential vitamin wins hands down!
Time once again to call in the ‘Wonder Vitamin’ of the 21st Century. Of course, I’m talking about vitamin D.
Researchers at a Tokyo medical school did a great job of testing D as a flu preventive.
First, they followed the ‘gold standard’ of clinical research — a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Second, they recruited more than 330 young schoolchildren. And as you probably know, school-age children are notorious for spreading flu germs like a wild fire.
Third, they used a generous dose (1,200IU daily) of vitamin D3, which is the best form of supplemental vitamin D.
Fourth, they followed the children for four months – right through the heart of flu season in the UK – December to March.
In short: It was an excellent test by anyone’s standards. (And the results were excellent too.)
Let’s have a look at the results...
In the D3 group, 11% of the children developed the flu, compared to 19% in the placebo group.
Not necessarily a HUGE victory. But other results dramatically exceeded expectations. Incidence of the flu was nearly 75% lower among children in the D3 group who had the lowest D levels at the outset of the study. And children with asthma in the D3 group had significantly fewer asthma attacks compared with asthmatic kids in the placebo group.
This is just one study, of course, but given the many benefits of vitamin D, you really can’t go wrong putting a D3 supplement at the top of your flu defence list.
And I’m going to tell Ricki the same thing!
| Join the anti-hand-sanitiser brigade - it could save your child's life!
Now you might be tempted to ward off germs by using hand-sanitisers this winter. Turns out this is a seriously bad idea if you have kids: Many hand sanitisers have a high alcohol content, which can be a bad mix with kids. I received an email that alerted me to this issue. It’s the story of a four-year-old who became lethargic and incoherent while at school. She was taken to a local hospital emergency room where multiple tests showed nothing wrong. Finally, doctors were informed that she’d been licking hand sanitiser off her hands earlier in the school day. A blood alcohol test revealed that she was still intoxicated, six full hours after arriving at the hospital. Other similar events have already prompted some schools to discontinue hand sanitiser use or change to alcohol-free products. Use of fragrance-free products is also a good idea because a child might think a sweetly scented dab of hand sanitiser is a treat. Please share this warning with friends, family and school administrators: Hand sanitiser may seem benign, but young children should only use alcohol-free brands and only when administered by an adult. If you wouldn’t leave open the liquor cabinet or a bottle of cough syrup, don’t give them unfettered access to this potential poison either. (Forward this email onto them so that they too can start taking advantage of these life-changing tips. And if they want to subscribe, they can do so here...) |
