The best way to clean... Just about everything!
Insider Secrets | 6 September, 2010 | Hot Topics:
Dear friend,
On Friday, I told you about my renaissance plan for Summer. The programmes I started this weekend are going well so far. It's only been a couple of days but I already feel a sense of improvement. I'll keep you posted.
But a strange thing happened. I got into a spring-clean mode...
Let me assure you this was unplanned!
I found myself wiping down my office phone, then my laptop, then I decided to vacuum my swivel chair... And before I knew it I was filing and clearing the clutter around me. Yip, Spring has definitely arrived.
So this week I thought I'd help you out with the best kept secrets to cleaning just about everything, so you too can declutter your surroundings and breathe a breath of Spring!

The best way to clean... Just about everything!
Your computer: Compressed air (found in hardware stores) will get all the grit out between the keys on keyboard without damaging the keys or the computer. Spray bursts of air between the keys, then turn the keyboard upside down. For the frame, dab some handyandy, or similar mild multipurpose cleaner, on a damp cloth and wipe. See the next point on how to clean your screen.
LCD screens: Prepare a solution of one part each of vinegar, iso-propyl alcohol and distilled water. Moisten the cloth with the solution and gently wipe the screen from top to bottom.
Windows: Combine 2 cups of water, a quarter cup of white distilled vinegar, and up to half a teaspoon of liquid soap in a spray bottle. Spray, wipe with soft cloth and dry with a newspaper.
Best way to remove your pet's fur from the furniture: Wrap some duct tape around your one hand and brush the furniture tops with the duct tape.
Burnt stainless steel pot: Use oven-cleaner!
Cleaning spots off leather furniture: Prepare one part lemon juice, one part cream of tartar. Work the mixture into the spot and wipe clean. Then rub a soft cloth over a moisturising soap, like Dove, and rub all over for a nice clean shine.
Stains on carpets: Use Window cleaner! For stubborn stains, use dishwashing liquid and peroxide.
Brass and silver items: Scrub toothpaste on item with an old toothbrush, then wipe with a soft cloth. Use Brasso if tarnished.
Your dishwasher: Use vinegar to prevent hard deposits from getting a head start.
Dry flowers: Dip the flowers in a paper bag filled with table salt. Shake lightly.
Stains in cups or mugs: Use toothpaste!
Your kettle: Boil the kettle with one tablespoon of vinegar in the water.
Your iron: To clean the reservoir of your iron, pour a solution of one part vinegar, one part water into it. Turn the iron on, allow it to steam for about four minutes. Then drain the iron for an hour.
