Last week, Stuart, the editor of Moneytree and I asked you some tough questions...
Are you living a life of quiet desperation, frustration, poverty and hopelessness? Is this what you want? Are you prepared to settle for being mediocre? Are you content with being just another non-entity in the faceless billions?
No? Then you're with me and I can help you.
There are fours steps to achieving a life of power, wealth and passion (assuming that's what you want).
The first stage is becoming completely debt-free, including your mortgage.
This the most basic, lowest, essential task for every thinking person to complete as a matter of extreme urgency. This means breaking out of that part of 'The Matrix' that brainwashed you into believing 'debt is good'.
If you're not able to do this, then you're making the following statement: “I came into this world with nothing.
Despite countless years of work I have been unable to create a single cent of surplus. My entire life's work produced a negative balance, not a positive one, so I borrowed the efforts of others and spent them on my own comfort. I will probably die without even being able to repay these people.”
What a statement. What a way to live a life.
In case you had the slightest doubt, this is NOT a life of power and passion. This is the life of a poor, helpless, weak invalid who cannot even feed, house and clothe him/herself by his or her own efforts!
Put like that (which is the honest truth) it sounds like a ‘damned poor show!’
Your certificate of freedom...
Stuart, editor of Money Tree
Ok. It’s time for you become financially independent.
What do I mean by this?
First, you decide on whatever level of pauper’s existence you call a ‘lifestyle’ and work out how much money you need per year to maintain this level of squalor.
Then you amass enough capital, invest it, and use the interest (etc.) to pay yourself this pittance each year.
For example, if you need R250,000 minimum a year to survive, then you need roughly half a million in the bank, allowing for tax on interest paid.
If you need R400,000 a year, then you need a R1 million. These are just rough figures to give you the general principle.
Think you’ve made it with this lousy 500k or R1 million?
Wrong!
You’re still broke. All you've done is to unmanacle your arms and legs from the cell wall.
Touch the capital and you immediately become a slave again. You are not rich, fulfilled, actualised or anything remotely like these things.
You have merely been handed your Certificate of Freedom from the Master and are walking away from the plantation into the unknown carrying your bundle.
Your lifestyle is the bare minimum required for civilised existence. You have a modest house, a small car and a bit of furniture.
You can eat (but not in good restaurants). You can buy clothes (but not the best). You can go on holiday for two weeks (a package holiday, nothing special). In short, you're bumping along close to the bottom.
BROKE, in other words!!!
In case you hadn't guessed, I'm yanking your ceilings way, way higher than the cramped hovel you’re prepared to crouch in.
With a million rands you are just starting on life's REAL journey.
Whilst not small change, a million rands is a VERY modest amount of money indeed - just enough to buy you your freedom.
Give this a think over the next few days and we’ll continue with this later in the week…
"I know how you can make money - even while you're asleep!"
