Do you ensure a healthy work-life balance?
Labour Bulletin | 14 January, 2009 | Hot Topics:
Dear Reader
Welcome to your first bulletin for 2009.
The New Year is well under way. I hope yours is off to a good start and turns out to be a prosperous one
I didn’t have a very long holiday (unfortunately) but it seems it was long enough to get me out of the swing of things work-wise! I’m having trouble getting back into the groove and things seem to be taking far longer than they should. I can’t be the only one with this problem!
I’m sure your employees, and probably you, are having trouble being as productive as they need to be. One of the biggest problems is that employees are used to spending time with their families over the holidays and now work returns to take up most of their time again.
Do you ensure a healthy work-life balance?
It’s important to help your employees maintain a healthy work-life balance. Include the following in your work-life balance checklist:
- Effective practices, which benefit both your company and your employees
- Acknowledging that employees work best when work and other aspects of their lives can be balanced
- Joint responsibility to find workable solutions between line managers and employees
- Appropriate policies and practical responses to incorporate specific needs of your organisation
- Fairness and consistency
- Valuing employees for their contribution to the company and not the hours they put in
- Monitoring and evaluation.
Until next time...
