Ever noticed that plastic smell when you get into your car?

Well, according to research, when stationary your car’s dashboard, seats and air freshener emit Benzene – a cancer causing carcinogen. In addition to causing cancer, Benzene could poison your bones, cause anaemia and reduce white blood cells.

Prolonged exposure could cause Leukaemia, increase your risk of cancer and cause miscarriages in pregnant women.

Park in a garage – don’t think you’re safe…

But here’s the scary thing… Your car emits Benzene regardless of where you park.

According to the research, a car parked in a garage or under ground parking with the windows closed will contain between 400mg and 800mg of Benzene – that’s 16 times the acceptable level of Benzene for an indoor area.

If you park your car in the sun, these levels spike up to between 2,000mg and 4,000mg – 40 TIMES the acceptable level.

When you get in the car on your way home this afternoon make sure the first thing you do is open your windows. Wait a few minutes before rolling them up and switching on your air-con. This way, you won’t inhale any of the toxin that’s been trapped in your car.
