Dear Reader

What a week we had last week! But being hectic was worth it…

I’m very pleased to say we had great feedback from our Employment Equity Workshop. Janine Nieuwoudt, our expert, really knew her stuff (not that we doubted her for a second), and everyone looked confident that they would get their EE plans and reports correct and submitted on time. As Janine pointed out: it’s not a simple process!

She also let me know that she’s just trained 200 labour inspectors for Gauteng alone…the Department’s really cracking down on offenders. Don’t be one of them…you’ve got less than a month to get all your information together.

In the mean time…here’s a quick tip on EE

Display and provide EE information

Aside from disclosing EE information to your employees, you must also:

•    Maintain records of your employment equity plan and your activities in carrying out the plan.
•    Display, in an accessible place in your workplace, any compliance order from the Department of Labour, arbitration award or Labour Court order related to the Employment Equity Act (EEA).
•    Display, in an accessible place in the workplace, your most recently submitted employment equity report.
•    Display a summary of the EEA.
•    If yours is a public company, publish your employment equity report in your annual financial report.
•    Make available to your employees copies of your employment equity plan.

Until next time…
