-    Me, a manager? I’m scared stiff!
-    So how did Christel help this appreciative customer?

Dear Reader,

I’m helming this week’s bulletin to pass on some well-deserved praise a client offered to Christel...

“I just want to tell you that your knowledge is very comprehensive and...FSP [is] lucky to have your expertise. You are doing great work and every time I...read that you are passionate about SHEQ management, then I agree with you...as I feel the same...you are definitely leaving a trail.”

Lynette Steyn
Occupational Health and Safety Co-ordinator

So how did Christel help this appreciative customer?

Lynette is a long time visitor to Christel’s website and recently asked for Christel’s advice:

Question

  1. If I have a qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, with a medical qualification (BA CUR with a two year diploma specialising in Occupational Health and Safety) would that be sufficient to register as a health practitioner?
  2. How does this qualification compare to NQF levels you offer?
  3. What is the scope of work for a health practitioner?
  4. I’m interested in starting my own company, specialising in medical surveillance. I need to find out if there’s actually a market, and what scope my practice should cover. Presently, my work is OHS and risk management and I have seen companies advertising this combination. Is there a big need?

Answer

  1. Yes, if you’re registered with the medical and dental council.
  2. This will be at NQF level 4.
  3. If you’re registered as the above, you’ll be fine.
  4. I see potential for onsite clinics as a consultant. And yes, there’s definitely a need for SHEQ professionals. You’re well on your way!

So, a big nod to Christel and her continued to support to her peers in the health and safety industry!

If any readers know of anyone else in the business who is just as deserving, drop me a mail at safety@fsp.co.za, and we’ll mention their name. Be sure to explain exactly how they’re working to ensure a healthy and safe environment for you and your colleagues, so others can learn from their example.

Stay safe,
