Dear reader,

My children went back to school last week. I’m going to miss having them home: I love spending time with them, and this holiday we were lucky enough to go camping together, which is bound to bring a family together. My daughter loved helping me arrange the meals, although I made sure my husband and son contributed as well!

If you have children, I wish them the best of luck for the academic year.

You’re committed to minimising mistakes!

Your response to last week’s bulletin was very encouraging. Although it’s clear that some of you were unsure of the difference between a SHE File and SHE Plan, it was equally apparent that you wanted to clarify the distinction between the two as soon as possible.

I listed the essential items to include in a SHE File. Now this week I bring you the key areas your SHE Plan should contain (Remember: this is only a guideline)…

SHE plan: 10 key areas to cover

1.    Introduction
2.    Reference documents
3.    Definitions
4.    Responsibilities
5.    Objectives and targets
6.    Planning and procedures
7.    Implementation of the health and safety specification
8.    Application of the health and safety specification
9.    Health and safety in practice
10.  Annexures

- Health and safety policy
- Hazardous task identification
- Risk assessment
- Induction
- Toolbox talks
- Audit schedule

If you need further information on the above points, drop me a mail at safety@fsp.co.za.
