Inside this issue...
- Teach an old employee new tricks
- 3 wage-regulating systems
Dear reader,
You can’t teach an old employee new tricks…. Or can you?
Mr Peterson’s been working for you for years. He’s loyal and hard-working but times have changed and you need him to keep up with them!
Is it possible to motivate him to learn a new way of doing things and be more productive? Yes! Find out how...
3 wage-regulating systems
Sometimes your employee’s lack of motivation is because he believes he isn’t being paid enough. As an employer in these tight financial times you want to meet your legal obligations to your staff without crippling your business. For this, you’ll need a wage-regulating system. Which of the following three apply to you?
1.Sectoral determination
A sectoral determination (SD) is a piece of law the Minister of Labour makes as often as he believes it’s required, under the BCEA. It sets out the minimum wages, terms, and conditions of employment, including salary increases you must apply to employees in certain sectors.
This will help guide you in increasing your employees’ salaries.
For the other two, you’ll have to do one more thing for me…
I hope you all made the most of the long-weekend; if you didn’t, there’s no shortage of public holidays this month!
Yours sincerely,
Lucelle Buchler
