Dear Reader

Welcome to this week’s Labour Bulletin.

Susan’s bulletin last week certainly got people talking!  We received a number of responses from readers and opinion was sharply divided.

Quite a few of you staunchly defended the role of labour brokers, whilst others agreed wholeheartedly with the Minister’s statement. Your tones ranged from resignation to outright rage, but an idea that most of you share is that labour brokers need to be properly governed.

Minister Mdladlana’s comments have certainly opened a can of worms – and I’ve no doubt the debate will continue!

If you missed last week’s bulletin for some reason and want to read Susan’s comments, I’ve got great news for you.

Our fantastic IT department has been working ridiculous hours to get our new FSP website up and running. It launched yesterday (1 April) and is slick, professional and so user-friendly! You’ll find all the previous bulletins on the site as well as a wealth of information about FSP and all our products.

Q&A from our subscribers

Is there such a thing as sports leave?

Question
We don’t have sports leave included in our leave policy. One of our employees wants to attend trials
(2 days) and then Nationals (5 days) for his sport and wants us to grant it as sports leave.

Is there a regulation on this?

Answer
You’re not obliged to grant sports leave.  It’s up to you, the employer, to do so and you can determine the terms applicable.

Until next time...
