Is there an income gem hiding in a garage sale near you?
Insider Secrets | 14 March, 2011 | Hot Topics:
Dear friend,
Junk!
That’s what you usually expect to find at a local garage sale, right?
Maybe a couple of tatty shirts that have had their hemlines taken-up, let-out, not to mention the fact that the shirts have probably been hand-washed and dry-cleaned to almost non-existence...
A wide-lapelled blue suit with gold buttons that’s miraculously both too big and too small at the same time...
A collection of Now That’s What I Call Music tapes featuring every release since 1983...
The list goes on.
But doubt as you may, there really are treasures to be found in tgarages sales from which you can make a lot of money.
If you’re looking for the right kind of things! Today, my colleague, fellow insider and biz-opp whiz, Glenn Fisher, will divulge the one thing you should look out for and why...
In the name of happiness,

Stop wasting your time on art... Look out for these lucrative “income gems” instead...
The thing to look out for is books....
You see, people very often underestimate the value of a book.
For example, I saw a story on BBC News a few weeks about about an anonymous donation to a charity shop in Edinburgh.
Reported the BBC...
Andy Crosby, manager of Oxfam’s Morningside bookshop, said: “One of our volunteers found the book and when I saw the signature inside it, it was one of those moments where I had to check that my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me.
“We thought at first it was just a regular sort of signed copy but when we took the book to Bonhams they said it was more likely to have belonged to Baird himself because of the location of the inscription, so that makes it a pretty special donation.
“I don’t know whether the person who brought this book in was aware that there was a signature inside it, but I’d like to say a really big thank you to them for donating it to Oxfam.”
The book they found was called Television and was signed by the inventor of television John Logie Baird. As you can imagine, it’ll now no doubt go for a song at auction.
And here’s the thing...
This is by no means an isolated case!
There are a ton of instances reported of people finding rare books at garage sales, charity shops, second-hand book stored that are being sold for a pittance. In fact, I expect there are a lot more examples that go unreported.
And hey, I’m not just talking about the top dollar finds here...
Sure, stumbling on a rare book on television signed by John Logie Baird would have you celebrating all the way to the bank.
But just finding a first edition hardback of a Will Self book for R50 could see you picking up a very nice profit if you sell it on through E-bay.
----------------------------------------------------------------
So here's what to do...
I’ve personally made some great finds and, wherever I am, if I spy a bookshelf through the window of a charity shop, I’ll be certain to drop in for a quick peruse.
So, next time you’re strolling by a garage sale or charity store and you wonder why they would choose to feature a fine art painting of a ham in the window (I actually saw this in Grimsby), don’t just laugh it off...
Look beyond the unboxed Transformer toy figures, the “tasteful” handbags and the questionable collection of mismatched crockery... Because hiding away inside could be the source material for a whole new income stream.
