Dear Friend,
It’s happened again – you’ve spent the last 20 minutes trying to find your car keys only to find they were in their usual spot all along.
That’s the third time you’ve “lost” your keys this week!
You start to worry… Could this be the first sign that you’re developing Alzheimer’s?
Don’t panic just yet! Age-related brain shrinkage can produce normal changes – so-called “senior moments”.
But before you rush off to the doctor, natural medicine sage, Dr Jonathan Wright suggests you start by knowing what’s normal and what’s not.
Signs and symptoms that may mean you’re in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease
If the symptoms you’re experiencing fall under the “normal” column, you’re in the clear. But just because it shows you’re not suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer’s, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start your Alzheimer’s prevention programme today. After all, our risk increases to 40% after we turn 60.
Your eight step Alzheimer’s prevention plan starts here…
Step #1: Eat a wholesome diet
Eat as much organic food as your budget allows, but be sure to opt for organic coffee and/or tea. Also make sure your drinking water is as pure as possible by filtering out chlorine and other additives.
Step #2: Break a sweat
Repeated episodes of heavy sweating could significantly reduce the amounts pf toxic chemicals in your bodies, by as much as two-thirds. So make sure you put in at least 30 to 45 minutes of walking three times a week.
Step #3: Detox
If strenuous exercise isn’t possible, far infrared saunas can offer great detoxification benefits. The best tool for diagnosis and the removal of toxic minerals is chelation therapy. Contact the Society of Integrative Medicines on (021) 887-5364 or lucia@integrativemedicine.co.za to find a skilled physician in your area.
Step #4: Add some spice to your life
Add turmeric to your diet – the orange-yellow spice used in curries and other Indian cooking. Research has found curcumin (a major component of turmeric) has specific actions that could reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Use as much of it in your own cooking as you can..
Step #5: Supplement your diet with this mineral
Lithium prevents the formation of neurofibrillary tangles, which helps prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Take 10mg-20mg with one tablespoon of fish oil each day.
Step #6: Consider hormone therapy
Protecting yourself from Alzheimer’s is the single best reason for using Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). Women in their early 60s with the highest oestrogen levels and men of the same age with the highest free testosterone levels have the lowest risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease within the next 15 to 20 years.
Step #7: Check your thyroid
Get a thyroid test and ask your doctor to help you regulate your levels. A working thyroid could help keep your cognitive function sharp well into your golden years.
Step #8: Listen to Mother Nature
Is your age getting the better of your ability to think clearly? The good news is nature has a plan to keep you smart...
