Labour Bulletin | 21 January, 2010 | Hot Topics:
Dear Reader
Welcome to this week’s Labour Bulletin.
You should’ve received your latest issue of the Labourwatch newsletter by now, or you can view it online.
We cover some exciting stuff this month, including:
- Are you unfairly discriminating in the name of affirmative action?
- You don’t always have to pay severance pay
- 6 factors to remember about maternity leave
- 6 facts you need to know about family responsibility leave
- The dos and don’ts of resignations
- How to review a CV in 30 seconds
- Bob’s injured during a violent strike – now he’s claiming R100 000 and you’ll have to pay him!
Remember, you need to be a subscriber to have access to these. But here’s where you’ll find current and useful labour advice (that’ll take you only 15 minutes a month to read)...
However, in this week’s bulletin I’ll give you something for nothing.
How to review a CV in 30 seconds
Develop a key qualifications list or candidate profile. You need to narrow down the most important information and create a list that includes your most important candidate selection criteria.
You’ll want to list the:
- Key characteristics or traits
- Most important skills
- Most relevant experience
- Desired educational level
- Other essential factors you will consider in candidate selection e.g. whether it is an affirmative action position
By creating this list you’ll be able to quickly eliminate any candidates who don’t meet the required criteria and it will help you to compare applicants at a glance.
I’m sure this will help next time you’re trying to find the perfect candidate.
Until next time
