Why cutting down will stop your partner’s snoring...
Insider Secrets | 3 February, 2010 | Hot Topics:
Snoring affects 40% of men, yet it is not they who suffer. It’s the people who have to share the same house as them!
Here are four ways to help banish your snoring for good...
* Lose weight! The heavier you are, the more your weight will narrow the upper airways and cause snoring.
* A snorer may suffer from a hidden allergy that may cause a narrowing of the upper airways. So try a decongestant spray.
* Try sleeping on your side. Many snorers find they snore less if they try this position.
* Throat aerobics! Try toning up the muscles in your throat, jaw and tongue. Press your tongue against the lower teeth for 3 minutes. And try holding a pencil firmly between your teeth for 10 minutes. The strengthening of these muscles can help your airways stay firm and open.
Help ward off heart attacks with a bottle of vino...
Did you know that wine can be good for your heart?
Back in 2002, Dr Michel de Lorgeril, of the Joseph Fourier University of Grenoble, France discovered that middle-aged men who had suffered a heart attack and who drank two or more glasses of wine regularly were 50% less likely to have a second attack than non-drinkers.
The medical director of the British Heart Foundation, Sir Charles George, told the BBC:
"This is further evidence that those who drink moderate quantities of wine remain at a lower risk of having a heart attack than those who are teetotal.”
The reason is that wine contains polyphenols. These chemicals help prevent the formation of endothelin-1 (ET-1) - the stuff that causes clogging in your arteries.

Serve wine like a connoisseur with these quick tips...
Always match the weight of the food with the weight of the wine. Heavy stuff like stew needs a full-bodied wine. That's more important than the colour or flavour.
* For cheesy foods like quiche, pasta dishes and pizzas, avoid white wines. Try Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon.
* If you’re going for something spicy like chilli con carne or curry, go for light, non-oaked wines. Try a Riesling or Chenin Blanc. If you fancy red, try something light like Pinot Noir or Beaujolais.
* For seafood, crisp, dry white wine is best. But for oysters, why not bring out the champagne? You may as well go the whole way!
* Roast lamb, pork and beef go great with a red Bordeaux or Beaujolais. Red Burgundy is the traditional match for beef Bourguignon.
* Smoked salmon and other smoky foods go well with a strong wine like a Zinfandel or Australian Shiraz,
* For sushi, try a German Riesling Kabinett.
* For fruity desserts, try Muscat variety wine.
