Before you have your child vaccinated – read this!
Health Bytes | 30 January, 2009 | Hot Topics:
Today, before children reach school age, they receive over 22 vaccinations: Chickenpox, smallpox, polio, measles, the list goes on. Most vaccinations are required by schools, which is one reason that parents don't question the paediatricians who issue the shots. They're protecting their children from terrible diseases, right?
Not necessarily.
Yes, because of vaccines, polio has been eliminated from most areas, and smallpox may have been eliminated worldwide. However, vaccine proponents would have us believe that vaccines are wonder drugs and have been largely responsible for controlling virtually all of the former epidemics of killer diseases.
With the exceptions cited above, the facts do not show this to be the case. In fact, although the effects of vaccines on children have been grossly understudied, some recent investigations show that certain vaccinations may actually be making children sicker by stunting their immune systems and potentially contributing to the increasing rates of autism.
The bottom line is that vaccines are medical treatments with side effects, not wonder drugs.
