Dear Reader,

It’s bonus time! As an employee all I need to know about bonuses is whether or not I’m going to get one. Needless to say I certainly hope so! Bonuses mean so much more to you as an employer. It’s not as simple as “yes, we’ll pay bonuses” or “no, no bonus this year!”

My company bases bonuses on performance. This is just one of the types of bonuses there are. You need to decide what bonuses you’ll pay, if you’ve agreed to pay, when you’ll pay, how you’ll work them out etc etc...it’s not a quick process!

3 reasons you must pay bonuses

Even though times are tough, you should still pay bonuses if you can afford to. Here are three reasons why:

•    Motivate your current employees
•    Make your company attractive to potential employees
•    Make sure skilled and valuable employees stay at your company

You’ve promised bonuses, but can’t pay them, what now?

But, what if it’s financially impossible? There are four steps you must follow if you’re not going to pay bonuses and your employees are expecting you to.

Step #1: Give affected staff advance notice in writing
Step #2: Give your employees at least 24 hours to comment and formulate their own solutions and proposals

Find out the other two steps to avoid your disgruntled employee winning at the CCMA. Chapter B03: Bonuses, in your new update will give you all the advice you need. Not yet a subscriber? Find out how you can get practical and up-to-date labour advice here.

We have a winner!

Congratulations to Darryl Clayton from Innovative Ingredients (Pty) Ltd. He’s won our invaluable 169 Job Descriptions Toolbox worth R7 999. All he had to do was complete a quick survey...time well spent!

Until next month...
